Case studies

Three situations we were built for

The situations teams come to us with, and what changes when an experienced interviewer runs the stage instead of a busy staff engineer.

Scaling a team

Hiring plan tripled, interviewer pool did not

The situation

A Series B platform team goes from four hires a quarter to twelve. The same six senior engineers carry every technical interview, and two of them are also the people shipping the roadmap.

The approach

Hand over the two stages that are structurally identical every time — the coding exercise and the system design discussion — and keep the hiring manager conversation in house.

What changes

Senior engineers stay in the loop where their judgement is specific to the team, and out of it where it is not. The stages that were the bottleneck stop being one.

Coverage gap

Hiring for a skill nobody internal can assess

The situation

A team strong in backend needs a senior data engineer. The people running the interviews can tell whether somebody writes good Python, but not whether they have genuinely operated a pipeline at scale.

The approach

Bring in an interviewer approved specifically for data engineering, with a rubric written for it rather than a generic coding rubric with the words swapped.

What changes

The interview asks the questions that matter for the role, and the evaluation says what was actually established rather than what could be inferred.

Consistency

Two candidates, two interviewers, incomparable feedback

The situation

One evaluation says "strong hire, great communicator". The other is three paragraphs of detail. The debrief spends forty minutes trying to establish whether these are the same bar.

The approach

Both interviews scored against the same rubric, on the same scale, with anchors describing what each level looks like, and written evidence required on the criteria that decide it.

What changes

The debrief compares evidence rather than adjectives, and the confident writer stops having an advantage over the careful one.

Why there are no numbers on this page

Every case study format expects a percentage — time-to-hire down forty per cent, interviewer hours saved by two thirds. Those figures depend entirely on the shape of the loop they were measured against, and quoting somebody else’s tells you nothing about yours.

What we can do is show you the product working end to end, against your loop. Book a demo and we will walk a request from submission to structured feedback in front of you.

Two ways to start.

Hiring teams can walk through their requirements with us. Experienced engineers can join the interviewer network.
